Stomping Grounds Open Stage!!

For this month lets do like the flowers and bloom which means grow as musicians. I challenge everyone to try something out of their comfort zone.

This month featured artist is Lester Rey! bio: Neo Soul, Latin Soul, and Soul music are at the root of my voice, but the sound is a journey that has been inspired by my influences growing up in Chicago and experiencing my Puerto Rican culture from afar in diaspora. A journey that has been shaped by music styles ranging from Bomba, Rumba, and Hip Hop to Chill Wave, Footwork, Trap and Reggaeton. But the music wasn’t the only influences that created the aesthetic choices made through each song, whether visual, musical, or lyrical. From watching anime, joining older Sibling to freestyle and House parties with dance offs, from being involved in fashion, and being attracted to personas like Hector Lavoe, Kid Cudi, Ivy Queen, Andre 3000, and Calle 13, inspiration was everywhere. Every song delves further into the complexity of my happy, sad, romantic, heartbreaking, journey that longs for justice, peace, and a sanctuary.

Stomping Grounds is a free monthly open stage event for young creatives to develop performance, curation, and exhibition skills while connecting to the Chicago creative community. The event is hosted by Free Write Arts & Literacy in collaboration with Kuumba Lynx and Elephant Rebellion. Sign up to perform is on a first come first serve basis - so come on time!
